Computer labs, college classrooms, adult education centers, and workplace training all have several things in common. Not only are they there to educate, interest, develop and grow their students, they also take a lot of looking after. Some school management software administration is a full time job, add computers and technology to the mix, and it gets even harder.

Many educational establishments spend a lot of money managing and maintaining systems. Computer-heavy subjects and digital classrooms depend a lot on the computers in that classroom. That means they have to be up and running all the time. Often, classroom management is more about the facilities than the students, especially when they are older.

This concern is amplified when teaching advanced computer science or a related subject that requires students to modify their systems as part of learning. As we know, these systems are delicate organisms that require a delicate hand to keep them running. Any inadvertent changes can render the system useless for the remainder of the day, or longer.

Computer-heavy schools often need a team of administrators and a number of spare computers to keep classes functioning at capacity, which requires a significant overhead. In this age of cost-cutting and efficiencies, this isn’t an ideal solution.

That’s why software such as Eye4you’s HDGuard come into play. School management software just got so much easier.

HDGuard sits in a secure partition on the hard drive of every computer on the network. It allows a single administrator to control any number of machines remotely, and ensure they have an approved operating system that works. No need to take computers away to rebuild them, no need for a team of administrators to repair lessons that went wrong. It’s all done remotely, and automatically.

The secure partition will contain a system image that will be built and approved by the school. It can contain the operating system and all software you want to make available to the students. Every time the computer is rebooted, this image is overwritten onto the computer and everything returns to normal.

School management software just got a lot more intelligent. It doesn’t matter what type of establishment it is, or how advanced their computer teaching is. As long as the partition remains protected, the computer will always work.

This allows classrooms to have a full class quota instead of having a couple fewer in case of computer failure. And less downtime, as a reboot will soon get the machine working again. Those schools with teams of system administrators can save money by reassigning them, or not replacing them as they leave. You don’t need a team to look after the computers, so you won’t need as many.

HDGuard will never replace system administration, as hardware and other software will still need maintaining. It will however, lower the IT overhead significantly, leaving schools saving money spend on other things. It’s innovations like these that makes computer software so exciting. Solving practical problems in a cost-effective way.
