Freelancers, business professionals and designers all have one thing in common; they all need to work, organize, update and develop all at the same time. You can easily relate to this if you can recall any time when you were working at your computer and had multiple browser tabs and a range of programs open all the same time.

You might also remember instances where all of this just became too much to handle and you may even have missed a few things because of so much was going on at the same time. If you find yourself in such situations often it’s about time you set up a mini video wall for yourself; a dual monitor computer setup ideally. Here are a few ways to set up dual monitors to increase your productivity while working.

Work, preview, work – if you are a blogger you might have used the “preview” feature often to see what shape your blog is taking as you write. This feature needs to be opened in a new tab and tabs need to be switched between to view your progress and the preview. With a dual monitor video wall you can have the preview window opened in the second monitor and every time you hit preview, the second monitor will simply refresh and show you what your blog looks like.

Chrome or Firefox? Both! – you may have noticed that for some odd reason some websites just load better on one browser as compared to the other. Now if you have several programs open and multiple tabs open in two different browsers things can get pretty confusing. A dual monitor setup will allow you to open one browser one the first monitor and another on the second; problem solved.

Two monitors and two setting profiles – this is one advantage of dual monitor setups especially beneficial for designers. Many times they need to change the brightness and resolution of designs and compare these to see what looks better. Anybody would agree that the best way to compare is to look at both things in large size at the same time; dual monitors make this simply and easy. Also if you are a reader, you may want to set one monitor at a lower resolution than the other.

A tip for the virtual assistants – if you have every worked for somebody as a virtual assistant you may remember being told to call a long list of contacts to confirm information or ask for literature. This always means you will need to make calls, keep a track of who you last called and maintain data obtained all the same time. This is made so much easier with a dual monitor setup; you can have your list of contacts open on one monitor and maintain data on the other.

Tweet while you work – many people switch to their email and social networks many times while working to see what is new on Twitter, Facebook and in their email inbox. To prevent these tabs from crowding your workplace simply open them in the other monitor.
